Mind The Gap
WHAT ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT
With the richest 20% of New Yorkers accounting for 54% of the city’s income, New York is quickly epitomizing the United States’ widening income gap. Today’s top 1% is in fact making more today than anytime since the roaring 20’s. Aside from the moral implications of facing such clear economic imbalances, these statistics pose multifaceted questions to incoming generations of academics, politicians, and social workers. In a city obsessed with individuality, who should and will be willing to take the responsibility of ensuring that the city’s progression is more all-inclusive? More importantly, how can decision-makers work together to mind New York’s ever-increasing income gap?
